At the Vienna Musikverein, the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich under the direction of Dimitrij Kitajenko with soloist Daniel Müller-Schott thrilled the audience in Dvorak’s Cello Concerto. Thomas Gehrig writes at klassik.com about the soloist’s ‘inspired phrasing’ and a well-coordinated interplay with the orchestra: “… the Tonkünstler vividly depict the extravagant dynamics. Rich strings are just as convincing as voluminous, homogeneous tutti. (…) Kitajenko emphatically confirms the short but violent orchestral outburst, while the solo voice sensitively models the lush cantilenas.”
After the intermission Dmitrij Kitajenko conducted excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. “Very rarely, after a brilliant harp solo, does one hear an ‘evergreen’ such as the ‘Flower Waltz’ in such a slender and dynamic playing. The appearance of the ‘Sugar Fairy’ has a noble elegance, the ‘Pas de deux’ can be seen dancing with majestic brilliance right before the inner eye.
